The original
Letterbox.

Four musicians. A city of suburbs. A name with a story inside it.

Everything starts somewhere.

Letterbox began as a band in Sydney in 2002.

I chose the name because of everything it suggested to me. A letterbox is such an ordinary suburban object, something familiar from the streets where we all live. But it's also a place for communication: messages arriving, stories being shared, something travelling from one person to another.

And then there's letterboxing in film — the way an image is framed for the screen. That idea appealed to me too: how we frame and re-frame the things we see, the stories we tell, and the meaning we make from them.

A familiar object. A message. A frame. A different way of seeing.

All of those meanings seemed to belong together. I loved the name Letterbox for what it evoked. And that's where this story began.
